The BRAND NEW HARTLEY 15, launched in January 2016, is a perfect family and training boat. Versatile, stable yet responsive, it will satisfy novices and experienced sailors alike. Sail it with 2 or 3 sails (both symmetric and asymmetric spinnakers are available), single-handed or with up to 5 adults on board. Its sleek lines ensure that however forgiving it is, the hull slices through the water for a fast and exciting ride. Best in class, in fact – so said the Royal Navy in its December 2015 test!

This tough rotomoulded dinghy is practically maintenance-free and will stand up to years of wear and tear. Fitted with a centreboard, centre hoop main sheeting, gnav system and an open transom, the H15 is also equipped with a roller furling jib and reefing system as standard. The cockpit is deep, designed to optimise visibility and create maximum space for adults. An added benefit is a large storage locker under the foredeck with wide access door – perfect for safely stowing everything you need for a day sail.

Like its smaller sisters, the Hartley 15 excels on safety as you would expect. If you should capsize, it is fitted with built-in righting lines as standard and the moulded shapes in the hull can be used as handholds and footholds, making it really easy to reach the centreboard even when you are in the water. The aluminium mast is foam-filled to inhibit inversion. The central mainsheet position and open transom ensure an unobstructed escape route.

Our verdict: With its robustness, practicality and responsiveness, the Hartley 15 is a game-changer in the family and training boat market.
